Malaysia to support Kosovo sports federations
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports of the Republic of Kosovo, Valton Beqiri who is visiting Malaysia, in the second day of the 12th World Congress Sport for All, which it's being hosted in the capital of Kuala Lumpur, met with the Chairman of Malaysia Olympic Committee, His Majesty, Prince Tunku Imran.

The main subject of this important meeting was the assessment of the adequate strategy on internationalizing National Kosovar federations and establishing a strong relationship and support with the Olympic Committee of Malaysia.

National Kosovar federations recognized so far by their respective international governing bodies are International Table Tennis Federation, International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles (FILA), International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) and in the process of receiving other recognitions. Kosovo is a member with limited privileges of the International Handball Federation. The country needs five full sport international federation memberships to join the International Olympic Committee.

Prince Tunku Imran, who is also a member of International Olympic Committee has stated that he will support and lobby to other members to allow Kosovar sports representatives to participate in the international arena, by following the basic principles of Olympic Chart.

"Kosovo, as the newest country in the world deserves to have an equal representation with other nations in the international tournaments," said Prince Imran.

Last week, Malaysia became the 52nd country to recognize the Republic of Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state and intending to establish strong diplomatic, political and economic ties with the newlyborn nation.

Minister Beqiri also met with the Special Counsel for Sports, Development and Peace to the Secretary General of United Nations, Wilfred Lemke, where they discussed various issues related to Kosovo' aspirations to join more international sports organizations.

Wildred Lemke pledged his support to encourage the national Kosovar federations  to participate in the international tournaments and continue to aspire to become a member of all international sports associations. "Through sports, Kosovo can build bridges and friendships with the other parts of the world," said Lemke.

Kosovar sports representatives have also met with many other important sports personalities at this important event where they received many promises for strong support to assist expediting  the process of admission of the Republic of Kosovo in the international arena.
